channel street. we will follow this on abc7 news.com. right now the oakland police department newly hired consultant is speaking to abc7 after a vote by the oakland city council to bring him on board. bill bratton is a former los angeles police chief and new york city police commissioner. the city council voted 7-1 around 2:00 this morning after a meeting that included four hours of public comment against and in favor of hiring bratton. critics worry he will recommend a stop-and-frisk policy that could lead to racial profiling but he says that is not the case. we talked to him by phone. >> stop and frisk and official profiling and the other issues of concern people have abuse police use of force can be effectively addressed by strong leadership that is focused on a constitutional policing. >> abc7 news reporter joins us with reaction to the controversial decision. amy? >> city hall was decisive with the 7-1 vote but in the neighborhoods people are split. the vote came in the middle of the night, it was already being talked about in the neighborhood this morning. >> i thought it was very g

the body was pulled last night around 8:00. breaking news from oakland where crews are mopping up after a house fire. it started at 9:00 this morning. we were overhead as flames burned through the roof. thick smoke could be seen for quite a distance. it took an hour to knock the fire down. investigators are looking into a suspicious fire that destroyed an abandoned pier this morning with crews responding in crockett near jackson avenue near the c&h sugar plant at 3:45 the firefighters let the fire bun itself out. a crew fought from the water. here is the pier before it burned. it is suspicious because there is no electrical wiring on the pier. >> santa clara sheriff is investigating a fatal accident in cupertino when a woman was killed. the woman was walking and hit by a big rig after 7:00 near cupertino road. no word on the identity of the woman or if the truck driver will face charges. >> we have new details on a tanker that hit the bay bridge. the pilot made a last-minute turn before passing under the bridge. our media partner reported the pilot planned to follow the yellow line but

you. a big turnout is expected in oakland when the city council votes whether to hire a controversial high-profile police consultant. the $250,000 contract brings on former los angeles police chief bratton who would advise police on ways to reduce the violent crime. not everyone is on board. tempers flared when protesters showed up to voice concern about possible racial profiling. bratton favors an approach call "stop and frisk" where police can stop anyone they feel suspicious. the oakland city council will take up the issue tonight. breaking news from houston. this is a campus spokesman at lone star college in north houston who has confirmed shots have been fired on this campus. you are looking at live aerial views. there are lots of police there. the campus is evacuated. emergency responders are in that area. that is the campus library. there are unconfirmed reports of three people injured already. medical crews were seen tending to who victims outside the building and students are filing out of the building. we do not know conditions of the injured. no immediate information on the

slowing moving north, and before it falls apart it could get as north as san francisco and oakland and concord. so you could get sprinkles, too, next hour and another push of wet weather that will come up as we head into the afternoon hours. temperatures were combed early this week in the 20's and 30's and we were mainly in the mid-40's to low 50's. we still have haze with the visibility improving, three miles in hair and mountain view and san jose. it will stay there with the rain. currently, low-to-mid 50's and mid-50's around monterey bay and headed inland. what will happen with the forecast cycle, shower chance tapering later today. especially during the evening and overnight hours. this will be patchy fog waiting tomorrow and showers and a cooler breeze on saturday, sunday, and monday but they are very light showers and not a game changer as far as the outdoor plan. you can see a curl in the atmosphere and one to the south, and that is why we are having the best chance of showers in the south. it moves part and falls apart in the afternoon so get ready for sprinkles and light
